Summary of TedTalk Video (Three ways to learn English by Jamila Lyiscott)

Jamila Lyiscott has been learnt and applied her English spoken in different ways with different audiences, there are home, friends and professor. For example, at home, she usually say-hi with her parents in infromal tone and sometimes add Jamaican as her mother tongue, it is “what a gwan” . Then, when she meets her friends at class or at blocks, she greet her friend informally  and put the slang language, like “What’s good?” . Moreover, in academic environment, the professor greet her formally by said “Hello”.

Jamila put her language context appropriately in her daily lives. She can choose the words depend on who she speak with. She explain that It is strongly strange if we talk to people without observing the audience. When her mommy said “ya’ll-be madd going to the store”, she cannot just said that the sentence is not following the law beause the context is at home. Also, she will assert her professor who says “Hello” to her and friends at block by say “What’s good”. Because of of that, she called herself as trilingual orator. Therefore, the audience agree that Jamila is articulate.
